South Fraser Search and Rescue

With over 50 years of dedicated service to our communities, South Fraser Search and Rescue (SFSAR) is a registered charity committed to the recovery of missing persons primarily in the Southwest region of British Columbia. Powered by a devoted group of volunteers (we have no paid staff nor do our members receive a stipend for attending training or calls), SFSAR also provides personal preparedness education and resources to the community through the award winning AdventureSmart program and participation in special events and public engagements.

Our members train and practice regularly so that we are always ready to answer the call. SFSAR primarily covers the municipalities of Surrey, White Rock, Delta, Richmond and the First Nations of Katzie, Kwantlen, Semiahmoo and Tsawassen. Combined these areas cover a population of nearly one million people or approximately 20% of the entire population of BC or 2.5% of all of Canada.

Mutual Aid Support is also provided to other search and rescue organizations across British Columbia. The team is known as one of the go-to teams in the region when there is a large search as our team has extensive search management and logistical capabilities for search events.

Our service area comprises of nearly one in five British Columbians. Every member of our team is a volunteer. Nobody receives compensation for the life saving work they do
